BASF, LONMIN and the Marikana Massacre
(XXXX: MUSS NEU GEMACHT WERDEN, SIEHE DEUTSCH)
16 August 2012, Marikana/South Africa: 34 striking mine workers of the world´s third-largest platinum mining company LONMIN are shot by the police. In the recently – end of March 2015 – ended Marikana Commission of Inquiry LONMIN was assigned direct and indirect share of the blame for the massacre.
BASF is the main customer of Lonmin (besides Misubishi).
BASF hasn´t issued a statement on the massacre to date.
BASF, world´s largest chemical company based in Germany, celebrates 2015 its 150th anniversary.
Wouldn´t this jubilee be a good occasion to take its „responsibility along the value chain“ seriously?
